Fake Anti-Virus Programs infecting your system with trojan virus
AntiVirus 2008, AntiVirus 2009, Personal AntiVirus, AntiVirus 360, and many more...  All FAKE virus programs.

Experts are warning of an increase in the number of fake anti-virus websites. Hackers are tricking people with a false warning, saying that the computer is infected with a Trojan and getting users to buy a fake anti-virus product.

Hackers have also created fake reviews to trick users into buying fake anti-virus software. Websites from popular IT magazines are cloned, hosted on a hacker's website, and then pages created to look like an official review.

This week, we've seen fake AVG anti-virus that was so good, one of BBC News engineers was convinced that it was the real thing.  If their engineers can't tell, what hope is there for Joe Public.

And last weekend, a Facebook application that spread virally among users caused an error message for Facebook users. Although the application and message were themselves harmless, searching the error message "Error Check System" in Google came up with a number of websites that claimed to have information on the supposed threat, but were really designed to perform a fake anti-virus scan of your computer and infect your system.

If you have 2000, and XP (Home or Professional)
PLEASE.... Hold the (CTRL) key and press the function key (F4) to close these programs down.  DO NOT click on anything on the screen.  Then login to each profile under safe mode (F8 key on Bootup), open windows explorer, click on Tools, Folder Options, View, check mark "Show hidden files and folders", remove check mark from "Hide protected operating system files", and delete everything from all profiles in the following folders.
               C:   Documents and Settings      %Profile Name%      Cookies
C:   Documents and Settings      %Profile Name%      Local Settings      Temp
C:   Documents and Settings      %Profile Name%      Local Settings      Temporary Internet Files

Once you've removed these files, click on Tools Folder Options, View, and click on "Restore Defaults" on the bottom right corner, then click on Apply, OK, and re-boot your system.  Good Luck...
Note: For all of you who find the above instructions complicating, download "FARONICS SYSTEM CLEANER" to your desktop and run.  Check mark "All users, Windows, and Recycle Bin"

Infection Without Protection
Experts suggested that a Windows PC with no firewall, no security software, and no router would likely be infected in a matter of 20 minutes to 8 days, on average.

Hackers  VS Windows
The security holes found in Windows XP are more then often the same holes found in Windows Vista.   These holes are usually in Internet Explorer, Media Players (Microsoft Windows Media Player, QuickTime Player, Real Player, DivX Player, etc.), DirectX, Sun Microsystems Java, Adobe Flash, WinZip, Etc.

The sad part of all this is that most problems can be avoided if users would do their Microsoft Windows Automatic updates and update the above listed software that notifies them of new updates.  Some software like WinZip must be un-installed and the new version must then be installed.

Hackers VS Google Search
Recently google was under attack by hackers.  Hackers loaded up more then 40,000 Web pages with malicious software under thousands of common search terms.  Hackers then used SEO (search engine optimization) to boost their sites Google rankings.  All infected sites carried JavaScript code on their pages designed to stop visitors coming from other search engines and only visitors who came through a Google search were hit.  These infected sites also carried code that kept the attack sites from appearing in search results if the entered search term included certain expressions that security researchers commonly use.

DRM (Digital Rights Management)
Last couple of years the music industry had realy gone crazy trying to protect their music.  They ended up adding DRM to every song you purchased and had taken away the right for you to play songs purchase on your home or work computer from playing on another computer or device.  Now Warner music Group, EMI and Universal agreed to drop DRM on the MP3 files sold through Amazon.  Sony BMG is still holding out for DRM, for now, but is expected to join its fellow Amazon participants sometime this year.
